Code
of Ethics
This Code of Ethics
is presented to all members of the National Cesky Terrier Club of
America, whose foremost objectives are the welfare, improvement
and advancement of the Cesky Terrier Breed. It provides procedures
and principles of conduct to be followed by all club members.
I. GENERAL CONDUCT:

Members
will promote responsible dog ownership.

Members
will ensure safe, healthy and humane living conditions
for the physical and emotional well being of all
Cesky Terriers in his or her care to include
veterinary supervised health care,
and proper nutrition and grooming.

Member
will refrain from actions or conduct contrary to the best interests of the breed and the club.

Members
agree to individually register their Cesky Terriers with AKC
FSS upon receiving registration papers from the
breeder. Members
will be familiar with the American Kennel Club (AKC) rules
governing record keeping, registration and sale and transfer
of dogs and will abide by those rules.

Members will abide by any stipulations from
their breeder at the time of purchase, that Cesky Terriers
purchased as pets not be used for breeding, and will
spay/neuter all pets at an appropriate age. Members
will notify their Cesky's breeder of any health issues, upon
death of the dog, or if they cannot keep the dog for any
reason. No member shall surrender a Cesky
Terrier to a shelter.

Members
will be responsible for the behavior of his dogs to
insure such behavior reflects the best possible image
of the Cesky Terrier.

Members
will exhibit good sportsmanship at all times.
II.
EXHIBITING CESKY TERRIERS:
a.
AKC and NCTCA rules regarding entering shows and exhibiting
dogs will be strictly observed.
b.
Dogs will be presented in the show ring clean and properly
groomed. Any change of appearance by artificial means, other than
removal of dew claws, is strictly forbidden.
c.
Exhibitors will conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner
both in and out of the show ring.
d.
The owner of record will be responsible for the appearance
and conduct of his dog at all times.
III.
BREEDING AND SELLING CESKY TERRIERS:
a.
Only dogs properly registered by AKC/FSS, CKC or FCI will be
bred. Breeding stock must display the true temperament of the breed.
Excessively shy or aggressive Cesky Terriers will not be used for
breeding. Breeding stock must be in good health, free of parasites and
communicable diseases, e.g. brucellosis, genital infections, etc.
Testing for these diseases will be done as close to the breeding
time as possible.
b.
No breeder will breed any bitch unless she is in good health,
over 14 months but not more than 8 years of age and the breeder has
the time and facilities to provide proper care and attention to the
physical emotional development of the puppies. Stud dogs will not be
used for breeding unless they are in good health, over 10 months but
not more than 12 years of age. An appropriate written stud service
contract will be used each time.
c.
Bitches will not be bred during more than two successive
cycles, and there will be at least two cycles after the second
successive breeding before she can be bred again.
d.
No member will knowingly sell any puppy to any pet shop, catalogue house or any wholesale dealer in dogs or to any person
who sells to pet shops, catalogue houses or wholesale
dealers, or in any way knowingly aid or abet the sale of any Cesky Terrier
through a pet shop or catalogue house.
e.
Members will be familiar with The American Kennel Club (AKC/FSS)
rules governing record keeping, registration and sale and transfer
of dogs and will abide by those rules. All puppies will be sold with
a written contract explaining any warranties or other agreements
pertaining to the sale of a Cesky Terrier. Sales Contracts will also
stipulate that the breeder will be notified by the buyer of any plan
on the part of the buyer to sell or otherwise dispose of the dog.
The stipulation will also require the buyer to either return the dog
to the breeder, or place the dog with new buyers approved by the
breeder. Breeder will also require that buyers advise the breeder of
any health problems or physical abnormalities and/or the death of
the dog. All dogs sold as pets will be sold with the stipulation
that the dog will be spayed or neutered.
f.
No member-breeder will place a puppy in a new home prior to 8
weeks of age. No puppy will be place in a new home while the puppy
is ill. All puppies must have at least an initial puppy
vaccination prior to placement.
IV.
DISCIPLINE:
a.
Failure to comply with the Code of Ethics will subject the
member to disciplinary action by the Board of Directors as provided
by the Constitution and Bylaws.
b. Allegations
of violations of the Code of Ethics shall be adjudicated by the
Board of Directors of the NCTCA.
